Employment Tribunal decisions are to be made publicly available, via an online database set to go live later this year, HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) has confirmed.

The body is yet to decide whether past judgements will be made publicly available, but all future judgements will be accessible online from autumn 2016 onwards, HMCTS has said.

The new decision will offer concerned employers and employees a go-to point of reference for Tribunal decisions which, although not binding in subsequent cases, will offer helpful examples of the ways in which Tribunals typically approach certain situations and legal issues.

However, concerned parties are advised that there is no substitute for sound legal advice.

The new online database will benefit all parties in employment litigation – who currently have to attend offices in person to access to decisions.

The current system will remain in place until an undisclosed date in autumn of this year – meaning that anyone who wishes to access a Tribunal decision will need to attend Bury St Edmunds to access English and Welsh decisions, or Glasgow in order to access Scottish Tribunal decisions, in the meantime.
