Nigel Rowley, Managing Partner at London and Surrey full-service law firm Mackrell Turner Garrett, has visited a number of cities in China to talk with Senior Officials, and business delegates about the opportunities for doing business in the UK.
As president of the London Chapter of the US China Global Investment & Trade Alliance (USCGITA), Nigel was part of a VIP delegation which visited Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong.
USCGITA was established to develop investment and commercial opportunities between China, the UK, the US and the rest of the world.
On arrival in Shanghai, Nigel initially met with Loh Long Hsiang, Vice President of Standard Chartered Bank in China to discuss business opportunities.
He then visited the Free Trade Zone (FTZ) in Shanghai in which he has a particular interest and expertise, and met with Haisong Wang, Vice General Manager of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone Development Company Co Ltd for detailed discussions on the opportunities in the fast developing FTZ
In Beijing, he had several personal meetings with Ambassador Sun Zhenyu, Chairman of the China Society for World Trade Organisation, at the China World Trade Centre in Beijing to discuss mergers and acquisitions, opportunities and challenges; he also presented to a group of their members on the subject of investing in the UK.
This was followed by a personal meeting with President Zhang Yujing and Deputy Director Sheng Guofei, of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products (CCCME), before making a presentation to 100 of their members on “10 steps to successful investing in the UK.”
The trip concluded with a personal meeting in Hong Kong with Song Ya Ning, CEO of Agricultural Bank of China and several of his colleagues..
The visit provided a perfect opportunity for Nigel to develop business opportunities between the UK and China using his many unique contacts in the corporate and commercial sectors.
Nigel has extensive experience in cross-border commerce and multi-jurisdictional litigation and is an international committee member for EMEA on Mackrell International (MI), the independent network of 90+ law firms around the world and Chairman of the Membership Committee for MI.
