Donna Martin is a partner in the Employment team of Mackrell Turner Garrett’s London office. As an Employment Relations Specialist, she advises both employers and employees on a full range of contentious and non-contentious issues. She joined the firm in 2011 after training and qualifying at Vizards Wyeth Solicitors in London, where she practiced employment law and commercial litigation.
Donna previously studied the Legal Practice Course at the Inns of Court School of Law and completed an LLB, Law and Politics degree at Keele University.
An employment law expert, Donna has significant experience in drafting employment contracts and handbooks, advising on grievance and disciplinary procedures and preparatory work prior to tribunals, including advising on the advantages and disadvantages of settling cases.
Donna regularly assists the Corporate department with business sales and purchases and advises on the implications such transaction will have for TUPE purposes.
Donna has particular expertise advising on settlement agreements and has published articles on this topic.
Her other significant expertise is the management of social media in the workplace. She regularly advises employers on social media policies that should in place, on how employers should treat instances of cyber bullying amongst their employees and on relevant disciplinary action that should be taken in cases of employees making derogatory comments on social media sites about their employer. Donna has produced a guide on the importance of implementing social media policies in the workplace.
Donna has presented to the Institute of Internal Auditors and at the Luxury Law Summit in London regarding the legal implications of social media in the workplace. She has also provided her thoughts regarding social media-based dismissals on national radio.
Donna is a member of the Mackrell International European Junior Lawyers Group and Americas Growth Group and as a result of the firm’s membership of this network, she has significant experience dealing with cross-border and multi-jurisdiction cases.
