Mackrell Turner Garrett’s Business Crime department are defending a high profile businessman being prosecuted by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) at Southwark Crown Court.

Nigel Rowley, Head of Business Crime Team, with Partner James Atton, are defending Jeffrey Revell-Reade, an Australian national being prosecuted by the SFO in a three month trial for conspiracy to defraud and corruption involving sums alleged to exceed $100 million.

Mr Revell-Reade is alleged to have been involved in the mis-selling of US penny stocks to UK investors from an overseas sales house, circumventing any financial regulations.

Specifically, Mr Revell-Reade is alleged to have been in overall control of the process from sourcing the shares via reverse mergers and share splits, supplying the stocks to the sales in order for them to be sold and controlling the flow of the proceeds.

Mr Revell-Reade strongly denies the allegations.

The trial has been delayed after three attempted starts, due to procedural difficulties.

Counsel Andrew Trollope QC and Henry Hughes of 187 Fleet Street have been instructed to represent Mr Revell-Reade during proceedings.
