Immigration law – recruiting care workers from overseas

New temporary measures have been introduced to ease the current shortage of care workers in the UK.

A range of care roles were added to the UK Shortage of Occupation List (SOL) in February 2022 and for the next 12 months, overseas workers will be able to apply for Health and Care visas to enable them to work within care homes and in care roles within the community.

As such, they will be exempt from the Immigration Health Surcharge, subject to meeting the visa requirements and having a valid sponsorship licence from their new employer.

The specialist immigration team at Mackrell. Solicitors can help employers in the care sector, ensuring that your organisation meets the legal requirements for bringing overseas workers to the UK, ensuring that the process is compliant and seamless.

We can assist with:

  • Identifying SOL eligibility
  • Sponsorship requirements including applying for a licence
  • Understanding Health & Care Visa requirements
