This stage of our Athlete Journey applies to athletes who are about to enter various professional contracts in their sport. This stage is characterised by the increase in pressure, income and media attention faced by athletes during this stage of their journey and the relevant legal and commercial challenges that athletes must tackle.
Athletes that find themselves in this Pre-Contract Stage need to be particularly mindful of where they see themselves in the immediate to mid-term future. Young athletes are regularly presented with professional contracts that do not have the necessary protections in place to allow the athlete to operate with certainty and therefore, it essential that the athlete is aware of the common risks associated with employment contracts, commercial agreements and tailored wealth plans.
Please see the content below which gives guidance on some of the key decisions and legal issues faced by athletes during this stage of their career.
