The forward-thinking approach of London-based international law firm, Mackrell Turner Garrett, has been praised and recognised by the judges at this year’s Legal Week Legal Innovation Awards.
Staff and Partners at the firm are celebrating having won the Business Development Innovation category at the awards, which were held on 24 May at The Landmark Hotel, London.
Mackrell Turner Garrett was selected for the award based upon the growth and success of its Cannabis Law department, which has gained significant attention from the fast-growing industry – both domestically and globally.
Since launching the service, the firm has acquired a significant number of new clients in that industry and received instructions from the likes of the UK Cannabis Trades Association. It has also shared its expertise in the press and on the radio.
In order to take the top spot at the awards, Mackrell Turner Garrett managed to distinguish itself from a field of seven other rivals from some of the UK’s leading legal firms.
Robert Jappie, Head of Cannabis Law, said: “When we launched this new service, we knew there would be a degree of risk involved but we could see a clear gap in the market that we knew we could fill and now it is really paying off.
“We have close connections with legal peers in the US in states where cannabis is now legalised, as a result of our membership of Mackrell International – a global network of more than 4,500 lawyers. This puts us in a unique position to provide advice to the UK’s fast-growing cannabis industry.”
Chris Lane, Head of Business Development and Marketing, added: “Our approach to promoting and developing this service has been fairly unique and has seen the use of social media, PR, video content and a whole host of other techniques to quickly build a following for our advice. We are well ahead of the curve in this niche area of law.”
Mackrell Turner Garrett’s Managing Partner, Nigel Rowley concluded: “The dedication and hard work that the team have invested into the launch of this department is remarkable and they are more than deserving of this recognition.
“We hope that this latest accolade will help us to introduce this service to a wider audience and make others aware of our significant and unique expertise in this area.”
