Leading London law firm Mackrell Solicitors is celebrating a major legal victory after Geeta Patel, Senior Chartered Legal Executive in the firm’s Family and Relationship team, successfully secured a Hemain injunction in an ongoing international divorce case.

These uncommon injunctions are used to protect jurisdictional rights in complex cross-border disputes. By temporarily halting foreign proceedings, they allow the English courts to fully assess which jurisdiction should handle the case.

In this instance, one party had initiated proceedings in a foreign jurisdiction in an attempt to secure a more favourable outcome.

As a result of the Hemain injunction granted through Geeta’s efforts, the Courts in England and Wales have granted an injunction that the foreign proceedings be put on hold, ensuring the Courts in England and Wales can now review the jurisdictional issues without interference.

Geeta’s success highlights the depth of expertise Mackrell Solicitors offers in complex international family law matters.

Commenting on her achievement, Geeta Patel said: “This case is an excellent example of how international family disputes can quickly become complex, especially when foreign courts get involved.

“Securing the Hemain injunction was a crucial step in ensuring that our client’s rights were protected and that the process remains fair for everyone involved.”

“I am really proud to have been able to provide our client with the clarity and security they needed during such a difficult time.”
