Philip is a Consultant Barrister in the Litigation department Mackrell Turner Garrett’s London office and joined the firm in November 2014.
Called to the bar in November 1990, Philip has spent 24 years in practice at the independent bar, of which the last 18 have been at the Chambers of A Ritchie QC, 9 Gough Square.
Philip brings to Mackrell’s a broad practice in civil dispute resolution which covers commercial/contract disputes, injunctive relief, employment, civil fraud, insolvency, property and landlord & tenant, contentious probate, administration actions, claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family & Dependants) Act, professional negligence, clinical negligence and personal injury (including foreign accidents and industrial disease).
Philip has a great deal of experience in alternative dispute resolution, particularly in mediation.
During his career clients have included individuals (including groups of individuals), public-sector organisations and large companies in the private sector including Pears Group, Pearl & Coutts and Thames Water.
Key cases include; Sneddon & 435 others v Bank of Scotland & 11 others (2013), Feldaroll Foundry plc v Hermes Leasing , Rezaeipoor v Arabhalvaei , Nouri v Marvi & Bank of Scotland , Newbound v Thames Water Utilities Ltd , Stevenson v Atos Origin IT Services UK Ltd , Lelliott & others v Whetstone & Medical Protection Society  and Hussain v King Edward VII Hospital (2013).
A member of the Professional Negligence Bar Association and Employment Law Bar Association, Philip is the joint author of “Remedies in Employment Law” – Law Society (2014), while he is the author of a chapter on group actions in “Clinical Negligence Claims, A Practical Guide” – 9 Gough Square (2011).
He has a good standard of written and spoken French and has basic German.
